ATM/Debit Card Safety

  • Always protect your ATM card and keep it in a safe place, just as you would cash.
  • Keep your personal identification number (PIN) a secret. Never write it down anywhere especially on your ATM card.
  • Never disclose card information over the phone to anyone.
  • Never disclose information about your card in response to an unsolicited e-mail or request.
  • Review you bank statements or check your account online regularly to verify if any unauthorized transactions are shown.
  • Report lost or stolen cards or unauthorized transactions on your account immediately.

ATM Safety

  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings, particularly at night.
  • Only use well-lit, unobstructed ATMs. If an ATM is obstructed from view or poorly lit, leave the area and conduct your transaction at another location.
  • If you use a drive-up ATM, keep your doors locked, windows up and engine running.
  • If anyone or anything appears to be suspicious, leave the area at once. If you drive to an ATM, park close to the terminal and observe the entire area from the safety of your car before getting out.
  • Visually inspect the ATM for possible skimming devices. If the ATM appears to have any attachments or alterations to the card reader or key pad do not use.
  • Make sure that nobody nearby can view your PIN or transaction amount.
  • Minimize time spent at the ATM. Put your cash, card and receipt away immediately. Count your money later and always keep your receipt

Debit PIN Safety

  • Do not allow anyone else to enter your PIN for you, even if they are helping you with the transaction.
  • Always stand between the Point of Sale (POS) terminal and any individuals waiting, so that you block their view as you enter view as you enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  • When you are using an outdoor POS terminal such as at a gas station, observe your surroundings before making a transaction. If anything looks suspicious, leave the area at once.
  • After a purchase, make sure you always get a receipt. Verify the receipts against you monthly account statement.
